Details

This incredible raw, Certified Organic Manuka Honey is harvested from bees foraging among protected groves of manuka bushes in the foothills and adjacent river valleys of the Seaward Kakoura Mountains in the South Island of  New Zealand.  The pollen count in Mountainhoney Organic Manuka Honey is verified before the batch is labeled as monofloral manuka honey.

The manuka tree (leptospermum scoparium) is indigenous to New Zealand and is world famous for the incredible antibacterial and properties of the incredible honey made from its nectar.  Manuka honey has been shown in laboratory studies to have antibacterial activity against the 7 most common bacteria species found in human wounds.  In fact, over fifty strains of staphylococcus aureus isolated from infected wounds showed complete inhibition at concentrations of as little as 2-3% manuka honey in water.

Tasting Notes

This exquisite honey is on the lighter tasting side of the Manuka spectrum. A dark chocolate appearance with an unusual texture that starts creamy and gently fades on the tongue. Fruity sweetness that is reminiscent of a juicy apricot. One of my all-time favorite honeys for salad dressings and smoothies, where it brings an added energetic and healing kick, while providing a light nutty flavor and smooth richness, without the heaviness of more intense manuka honeys.
